We can decorate our home using led strips and they have the power to make something look really cool. Good news is that there's no limit of where and how many places you can use the strips. You can set them anywhere you want to add a cool vibe as well as changing the mood of that environment. In this article I am going to tell you how easily you can find the best rgb led strip light at a very cheap price that is suitable for your place.





Inside the Box
You do need some additional electronics to set up the rgb strip and you will definitely get them with the strip light in the package. There is one RGB control box which has a 12 volt 6 amp rating for maximum output power. Then to power up the led strip there is one 12 volt 2 amp power supply and to control the modes wirelessly, one small remote was also included in the package with the rgb led strip. So that’s all you are going to get which will get you started.



Design and Build
The rgb led strip light is 5 meters long. There's nothing wrong about the quality of the whole package because it comes at a very cheap price. The plastic wheel type case has an average type build quality but the led strip has a pretty decent quality build. The design looks minimal which is totally fine. They are pretty flat and narrow so that you can make a cool looking low profile setup. These are individual red or green or blue leds but you can get other types that can do red, green and blue for each led which will cost more obviously.

There is adhesive tape underneath the strip, so mounting on a flat surface is pretty easy. One very good thing about the led strip is, it has both input and output end connectors which are nicely soldered to the strip via the cables. They are using heat shrink at the connection point which is so good for durability and protection. The 4 pin connectors also have their own casing and I really like the fact that they thought about durability. Overall, nothing premium or special but a decent package within a cheap price.

Other electronics also have decent build quality too. The rgb control box has a female barrel connector for input power and for output, the cables are soldered with the pins. Soldering job is pretty good and the power supply unit has good quality too. The remote is thin and light with a small form factor. It has a button cell (CR2025) battery.


Setup Process
The setup process is pretty easy here because this package has only one led strip to connect. You can get other rgb controllers that have multiple outputs to connect more than one strip. The 12 volt power supply has a 5.5 mm male barrel connector which will connect the input port of the rgb control box. The rgb control box has a 4 pin female connector as output. Connect this to the 4 pin male connector of the led strip which is the input of the strip.

First you should connect the led strip input to the control box output by aligning the cable colors properly. Then connect the barrel connector of the power supply to the control box input port. After that you should connect the power supply unit to an AC wall outlet. So the connection is ready now and you should turn on the switch of your AC power source if there’s any in your case. The led strip should light up as soon as it gets power. Now if you want to control the modes wirelessly, then you should use the included remote. More information about this in the features section. Remember that those connectors can be different in your case.

Be careful while connecting them together because the wire colors need to be matched properly. If the wire colors are different then it will be a bit tricky to find out the positive, negative and signal wires. Here it’s easy because the pads are marked as +12v, Blue, Green and Red. The connectors also have the same 4 colors and they line up correctly.


Features
The amount of features you're going to get with this package are pretty minimal. But it's still better to have some features that you may find useful in your use case scenarios. These are cheap budget led strips, not those fancy ones that can be controlled via the internet. The most important and interesting feature is, you can control the modes wirelessly using the remote which works with the controller's IR receiver. This is pretty good for a cheap package and it works just fine as intended. There are some distinct modes where you will see some cool color changing effects. You can turn the led strip on/off using the remote and brightness control is also possible which is very useful - I like this feature.

The led strip has connectors at both ends, so it is possible to add another similar kind of led strip. But you need to know about the output power of the rgb control box. Because if you want to connect more than one strip then you need a more powerful control box that can deliver enough output power to the led strips. One pretty user-friendly thing about this strip is that it can remember which lighting mode you were in last time. The remote can also change the colors of the leds and it has effects like flash, strobe, fade and smooth. Overall, I can definitely say that you have flexibility here to control the device.


DIY Hacking
You can modify these kinds of led strips by using some techniques and DIY skills. If you observe closely, then you will find out that there are connection pads in the led strip. And those connection pads come after a certain amount of length in the strip circuit like a cyclic order. The pads are big enough to cut them from the middle. So if you want to make the strip short, then you should cut the strip from there. For adding another similar type strip, you need to clean up the pads and solder them together. You can also connect them following a different approach like using cables and soldering them to the pads, so you should do it as you want in your own way. I always get so excited when it comes to RGB LEDs and it is really interesting that you can have some DIY fun with these kinda led strips.
