Motion Boom Plus is the big brother of Motion Boom which was killing similar sized portable BT speakers from big brands like JBL, SONY and also beating some much bigger expensive speakers with its insane deep bass. You know another killer speaker from soundcore is the Motion+ and let me tell you that it was way ahead of its time like an engineering marvel. If you’re a hardcore fan of other big brands like JBL and you don’t care about small brands, then you need to get updated by checking out my review of the incredible Soundcore Motion+. So combining the tweeters from motion+ and powerful deeper bass of motion boom, soundcore released a new version called motion boom plus which is even way more powerful and loud with better clarity. In this article, I am going to write about all the characters of this speaker when it’s taking on the jbl boombox 2.





Inside the Box
The motion boom plus comes with typical standard soundcore packaging which is decent but not enough protection as the box is made of thin foldable cardboard box like the motion boom. Inside the box you will get a type-c to type-c cable, carrying strap and instruction manual. It’s a really high quality charging cable with ANKER branding which is really nice to have. The carrying strap also looks so cool with the soundcore logo and feels premium. Main star of the show is obviously the speaker which was of course inside the box.


Design and Build
In my opinion, the design is okay which looks pretty simple and clean but doesn’t really stand out from budget vibes. It shares the same kinda design like the smaller motion boom but not so cool looking like the motion+. The passive radiators look cool on both the left and right side, though. It has a built-in handle for carrying purposes. You can attach the included strap with the handle and the contacts are metal which is more durable.

It has a metal grille on the front side but the whole body has a plastic build. The plastic materials that they are using here seems kinda cheap but mostly it is fine. Because of the budget build it feels light too considering its size. The speaker is about 2400 grams. So overall the design and build is pretty good with decent durability but nothing special.


Configuration
Motion boom+ is stereo so it has a separate left and right channel. But it's not going to sound like a true stereo sound system because the drivers are close to one another. It has 4 active drivers on the front side including 2 woofers and 2 tweeters. There are two passive radiators in total on both the left and right side. The woofers are rated at 30 watts each and the tweeters are rated at 10 watts each. So in total the boom+ has a powerful 80 watt rating.

The battery capacity is 13,400 mAh which is kinda huge. On the back side there is the type-c charging port, usb type-a power out port for external device charging and an AUX-in port. For the software side of things motion boom+ supports soundcore app which is a huge deal because you can use custom eq from the app. Software updates as well as other useful features are available there. Sound Quality
The 80 watt soundcore motion boom+ is two times louder than its predecessor motion boom. The bass has a little bit more extension at around 40 hz but boom plus is crazy powerful like 5 db more at 60 hz than the motion boom. This completely blows the motion boom out of the water and takes the motion boom plus onto a whole new level. So it's now going to compete with the big boys like JBL xtreme 3 and boombox 2. But before getting into that let's talk more about the sound quality. Thanks to Alan from Alan Ross Reviews for all the measurements and his incredible passionate work.

The deep bass has nice impact, rumble and powerful punch that you can feel in your butt. The midrange is okay but there's a dark nature to its sound signature. This is because of the pretty wide dip in the lower mids region. In the frequency analysis a wide suckout from 200 hz to 2 khz is making the boom plus sounding recessed and weak in the mids. The reason behind this kinda tuning is to make the speaker's deep bass prominent. It works well here and the vocals are okay even though they're not as forward. Interesting part here is, the boom plus has got tweeters now. The tweeters do help to bring out more details and nuances of the sound but not in a rich way. It now sounds more open and airy than ever with better sound dispersion. If you think the bass is too heavy or mids are recessed or treble has too much energy, then you can always use the 9 band custom eq in the soundcore app which works really well.

There is no competition between boom plus and JBL xtreme 3 because boom plus is way more loud and powerful which makes the xtreme 3 look stupid and embarrassed. Now between the boom plus and JBL boombox 2 the boombox is way heavier but you're going to be blown away like me after knowing the results. Motion boom plus is louder by 1 db than the boombox 2 when both at 100% volume on battery. Boombox has way more deep bass but boom plus was noticeably louder. So another badass speaker from soundcore which is killing similar sized speakers and hanging there with the big boys.


Features and Battery
Motion boom plus has the latest Bluetooth Version 5.3 which will give you a better performance with im­proved latency in transmission. You don't need to worry about water and dust because it has an IP67 rating. So it can be submerged under water and also you can take it to the beach. It has the BassUp tech­nology that increases the deep bass significantly. Dome tweeters are there to produce better highs. Boom plus has a huge battery of 13,400 mAh total capacity. You can charge it using the type-c cable at 5 volt 3 amp. Charging external compatible devices is also supported here. On top of these high-end features you also get an AUX-in port. Boom plus supports TWS pairing as well as PartyCast 2.0.


They are using titanium cone drivers like in the older motion boom. So you don't really miss out on anything other than a high-end codec. The battery life is rated for 20 hours which is incredible. But this claim is for average type listening like at 60% volume. If you push it more like close to full volume, then you will get a lot less battery backup time. However, all-day battery life is really on the top level of portable bluetooth speakers. It should take about 4 hours to fully charge the device as it has a big battery. Overall soundcore motion boom plus is here to really deliver something special and extraordinary.


Conclusion
If you are looking for a powerful sound in a portable form factor that you can take with you for party and fun then this one is on top of the market. Not only for outdoors but also indoor listening is great with this speaker. It has a powerful sound with good mids and highs. The sound is also open with a good amount of details. If it is bass heavy for indoors, then you have the option to tune it as you like using the app. As I have already discussed that this speaker is louder than much bigger speakers, so you get a lot of flexibility here to play with. I highly recommend this speaker if the size is okay for you. Don't go for JBL xtreme 3 just because you are a JBL fanboy - Motion Boom Plus is a game changer here.
